Maya is the phenomenal world of separate objects and people, which creates for some the illusion that it is the only reality. Maya is believed to be an illusion, a veiling of the true, unitary Self—the Cosmic Spirit. In Hinduism, Maya must be seen through in order to achieve moksha (liberation of the soul from the cycle of death and rebirth)
Nah.. makanya, kalau sekarang potongan gw rada2 besar kayak gajah, blame it on my mom! Tega nian emak gw, anak perempuan semata wayang kok dikasih nama gajah. Biarpun gajahnya imut dan baik hati, teteup aja.. gajah gitu lho! HAHAHAHA..
UPDATE 24 Februari 2007:
Eh.. ternyata ditambahin penjelasan arti nama gw oleh ahlinya. Kutipan penjelasan yang diambil dari komentar ini:
The world is maya, and God has created it. It exists as a means by which to conceal and as a means by which to reveal. The world as illusion provides us with a context in which to understand the world to come. It is the womb of the next world, and our development here is crucial to attain to that world fully. In this sense, maya is unquestionably good. Also, maya serves God's purpose by veiling us from truths we cannot yet bear. This too is good.
Finally, maya can be bad if we look upon the veil and find nothing beyond it, nothing behind it, forgetting even the Creator of it. When this happens, we tie ourselves to the illusion without understanding the true purpose of that illusion and deriving from it none of its benefits.
Maya essentially is the outward expression of an inner state; though it represents that inner state, it is not the inner state itself. After all, Maya was the name of the mother of the Buddha
Thanks, Da'ud, for sending such a beautiful interpretation of my name ;-) Hope it helps people to understand the universe ;-)
